The 1968 "five-corridor" rapid transit system proposed by RTD included feeder bus lines for each station. Given that the "grid system" that created the long, end-to-end lines on all of the Valley's arterial streets would not be put in place for another seven years, the feeder lines proposed for the San Fernando Valley line would have filled in many of the existing gaps in service. For this reason, we are including information on what RTD service existed in the immediate vicinity of each proposed station location. (Refer to the first map on the RTD: 1964-1975 page for route details on that service.)
Service was proposed to be provided half-hourly on all lines, with increased service during weekday rush hour (frequency of rush hour service shown in italics after each line's description). Some lines were proposed to have an "express" version at rush hour; today we would call those "shortlines". The maps come from the staff proposal of September, 1968 (and yes, they were made using then state-of-the-art mimeographing!).
Universal City Station:
UC-1: West on Ventura Blvd. to Laurel Canyon Blvd. (5-10 minutes)
UC-2: North on Lankershim Blvd. and Cahuenga Blvd., then via Landale St. and Olive Ave. to downtown Burbank. (3-6 minutes)
Existing RTD Service: Lines 35 and 81 on Ventura Blvd.
North Hollywood Station:
NH-1: North on Vineland Ave. to San Fernando Rd. (5-8 minutes)
NH-2: East on Magnolia Blvd., then via Buena Vista St. to Victory Blvd. (6-8 minutes)

Laurel Canyon Station:

FU-3: South on Fulton Ave., then via Ventura Blvd. to Van Nuys Blvd. (10-15 minutes)

Sherman Circle and Van Nuys Stations:
SC-1: South from Sherman Circle Station on Van Nuys Blvd., then via Ventura Blvd. to Sepulveda Blvd. (5-10 minutes)
SC-2: North from Van Nuys Station on Van Nuys Blvd. to Laurel Canyon Blvd. (15 minutes; express to Nordhoff St., 3-8 minutes)

Sepulveda Station:
