Glendale Beeline
The San Fernando Valley Transit Restructuring Study proposed the replacement of Metro Bus service in parts of Glendale with that city's Beeline shuttle service. This started the first significant restructuring and expansion since Beeline service began in December, 1984.
Beeline Route 4 was proposed to be extended at both ends, to operate the portion of Line 183 between Palmer Park and Glendale Metrolink Station, as well as portions of Line 91 and Line 177 between Glendale College and Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Transfer of service in the Verdugo City and La Cañada Flintridge area -- formally included in the April, 1997 MTA staff recommendations -- was implemented April 10, 2000 as Route 3, along with the portion of Route 4 between the Galleria and Glendale College; the Palmer Park segment became part of modified Route 4 service at the same time.
Beeline Route 6 was proposed to replace Line 183 between Glenwood Rd./Concord St. and the Glendale Galleria, and Line 201 between the Galleria and Glendale Adventist Medical Center. The Route 6 alignment subsequently adopted by Glendale and implemented September 3, 2002 is different, replacing Line 183 on Colorado St. Line 201 has remained in service east of the Galleria, although Metro San Gabriel Valley (which assumed responsibility for the line in 2002) cut back the line at Glendale Adventist Medical Center December 17, 2006 .
The remaining replacement service for Line 183 was Route 5 on Pacific Ave., which began operation November 15, 1999 and Route 7 on Kenneth Rd., which began operation April 10, 2000.
The remaining portion of Line 183 operating in the hillside residential district between the Glendale city limits and downtown Burbank was proposed to be operated by a new Line 675 shuttle in the April, 1997 MTA staff recommendations. No action on that proposal was ever taken, even though that shuttle was expected to be implemented after Glendale finished its restructuring in 2002; a proposal to eliminate the Line 183 routing between downtown Burbank and Glendale in 2005 was removed from consideration due to objections by the cities of Glendale and Burbank. Line 183 is now proposed to operate only the Burbank Highlands route segment beginning in June, 2007.
Proposed Route 8, connecting Glendale Metrolink Station with Glendale Community College, is allegedly still on the table for future consideration.
The Metrolink Express shuttles -- Route 11 between downtown Glendale and Glendale Metrolink Station and Route 12 between the Burbank and Glendale Metrolink Stations -- had no proposed changes.
